Historic weekend for Orelac Racing Verdnatura with second place for Raffaele de Rosa in WorldSSP
Orelac Racing Verdnatura
May 26th, 2021
Weekend to remember at Orelac Racing Verdnatura. The Spanish team managed to climb to the second step of the podium in the second round of the FIM Supersport World Championship thanks to the Italian Raffaele de Rosa, who made a magnificent debut with his new Kawasaki and was only one tenth away from the victory. The strategy in the choice of tires played a crucial role in the performance of the drivers and the result of the second WorldSSP race at the Pirelli Round of Aragon. Steven Odendaal (Evan Bros. WorldSSP Yamaha Team) won the 15-lap event.
The test got off to a bumpy start as Philipp Oettl (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing) and Federico Caricasulo (GMT94 Yamaha) crashed into the first corner. De Rosa started from the twelfth position and advanced incessantly from the first lap. On the back of the Kawasaki ZX-6R Orelac Racing VerdNatura was added to the fight for the podium places, driven by a wise choice of its tires (water at the front, intermediate at the rear). Cluzel took advantage of the dry lane of the asphalt to stay ahead in the following laps, although with the South African glued to his wheel. Two laps from the end, Odeendal launched his attack on the Frenchman, who accused the effort of the comeback. There was still the final push from De Rosa, who waited for the Aragonese corkscrew to overtake the South African pilot, but he was able to regain his position on the turn before the finish line and cross the finish line in first position. De Rosa gave the first great joy of the season to the Orelac team with his second position. He also reaped the fastest lap.
According to the Italian rider after the appointment: “I am very happy with how the race went because for me it was a very difficult winter. I had an accident and an operation on my back. That is why I am very happy because I have suffered. I want to thank Dr. Russo, and also Orelac for believing in me and giving me this opportunity. The bike is not missing anything. The race had a difficult start due to the wet conditions on the track. I tried to catch my rhythm and when I saw that it was possible to get to the top positions I pushed as much as I could. We have been very close to victory. We must continue working like this. José and Nacho, thank you very much. To the whole team, great job ”.
After the first two races held in Aragon, the Orelac rider is third in the general classification with 27 points, by 50 (full) Steven Odendaal and 31 Dominique Aegerter.
Next appointment 28/30 May at Estoril, Portugal
